Security basics

Confirm there's a secure main gate with controlled entry, ideally a female warden or caretaker on-site (especially for student PGs), and CCTV covering common entry/exit points. Ask about entry timing rules and how strictly they're enforced — this varies a lot between PGs.

Visitor policy

Clarify sharing type (single, double, triple) and, if it's shared, whether you have any say in who you're placed with. Ask about storage space — cupboard space per person matters more day-to-day than it seems during a quick visit.

Laundry and housekeeping

Confirm whether laundry and room cleaning are included in the rent, and how often — this is a common area where "included" ends up meaning something more limited than expected.

Wi-Fi and study space

If you're a student, check actual Wi-Fi speed (not just "we have Wi-Fi") and whether there's a common study area, since many shared rooms aren't ideal for focused work.

Talk to current residents if you can
